Bashir rejects resignation of state minister of justice despite corruption allegations

December 16, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir refused to accept the resignation tendered by the state minister at the Ministry of Justice Tahani Ali Ahmed despite corruption allegations that surfaced this week.

The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Wednesday said in a brief news report that Bashir asked her to continue in her post and carry out her functions.

According to local press reports, Ahmed’s son was arrested by police for possession of drugs that were found in her car that he was driving with a friend.

He was taken into custody and charged with drug-related offences.

The minister came to the police station with her brother accompanied by a prosecutor who managed to get her son released and had the car discharged while his friend remained imprisoned.

But as the story became known, Ahmed’s son was re-arrested and the prosecutor who intervened on his behalf was suspended until a committee formed by the Ministry of Justice investigate the circumstances of the incident.
