S. Sudan ‘lost boys’ donate computers to Dr. John Garang varsity
December 16, 2015 (BOR) – South Sudan’s ‘lost boys’ in United States have donated 63 desktop computers to Dr. John Garang Memorial University in Bor, Jonglei state.
The university’s deputy vice chancellor for administration and finance, Robert Mayom described the contribution was the Greater Bor ‘lost boys’ as remarkable in developing the university’s computer laboratory, which was destroyed during the crisis.
“During the 2013 crisis most of our computers were destroyed and we had nothing us. When I and David Malaul Wuor went to US in June and August, the lost boys were able to organize these computers computers”, said Mayom.
The arrival of the computers is expected to boost the university’s learning environment for students, majority of academicians told Sudan Tribune Wednesday.
“We are glad that in next academic year, our students will use them for their studies and research. Special thanks goes to greater Bor community who are in US”, said Mayom.
Each computer reportedly cost about $2,000, including shipment and transportation to Bor.
Mayom said they still lack of support from the current government, compared to the previous one under former governor, Kuol Manyang Juuk, who is credited for supporting hiring of houses for staff accommodations and fuel to run generators and vehicles.
