SPLM-N rebels ambush government soldiers in Blue Nile
December 29, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North (SPLM-N) claimed that four government soldiers were killed and several others injured in an ambush near the town of Kurmuk, Blue Nile state.
In a statement issued Tuesday, SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi said that fighters from the second division killed 4 government soldiers including a sergeant by the name of Mahmoud Hassan Ibrahim and wounded 9 others including a lieutenant in an area between Baraka and Sali, 10 kilometers north of Kurmuk.
He pointed out that their forces seized large amounts of ammunition and machine guns and destroyed a TOYOTA truck, saying there were no casualties on their side.
The Sudanese army didn’t comment on the incident.
On Monday, the SPLM-N said its forces repulsed an attack by the Sudanese army on Torda area in the Blue Nile state killing 13 government soldiers.
Since 2011 the SPLM-N has fought the Sudanese army and their aligned militias in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
Last October, the two warring parties in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan states announced a unilateral truce but the fighting resumed after the failure of the peace talks by the end of November.
