South Sudan’s deputy speaker warns security organs

January 14, 2016 (WAU) – The deputy speaker of South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly (SSNLA), Mark Nyipuoch has warned security officials in the country’s newly-created Wau state to desist from arbitrarily arresting innocent citizens.

“This message is to my forces, the organised forces, the army, security and the police to give freedom to the people of Wau state. The last time I was here, wherever civilians encounter difficulties, they rush to Wau,” said Nyipuoch.

A similar thing, he said, occurred among civilians with problems in Wulu county.

“They ran with their cars, came here and I when I asked them what was wrong, they said they were really suffering there,” added the official.

The deputy speaker, appealed to citizens not to target their traditional chiefs, citing last year’s incidents in which three of them were killed in Wau.

Chiefs are symbols of peace and law in the communities, stressed Nyipuoch.
