Outrage as two woman are murdered in Jonglei’s Bor county
January 14, 2016 (BOR) – Authorities in Baidit payam in Bor county of South Sudan’s Jonglei state have condemned Tueaday’s killing by suspected Murle men of two women.
The incident reportedly occurred when the duo were out to collect grass.
The county paramount chief, Gordon Alier Aluong, condemned the incident, accusing Murle of aggravating insecurity in the area at a time when people hope for change.
“It is worse case in this area for a human being to be murder like goats. We condemn this incident in the name of God. This is the work of devil, and if anyone fears God, you would not like a woman like them. The knife they use to slaughter them would turn to them [murderers], oh God”, a visibly-angry Alier told area chiefs.
The commissioner of Bor county confirmed the incident, saying is poses a threat to returnees who as they prepare to collect grass from nearby bushes to rebuild houses.
“We belief that this action was carried out by the Murle, and we are trying our best to deploy police and security agent to deal with that, and to investigate the matter”, Mamer Ruk separately told members of the security cluster on Wednesday.
The identities of the two women killed were, however, withheld by Bor county authorities.
Both the new states of Buma and Jonglei have a plan end the persistent intercommunity conflict between Pibor and Bor communities by engaging chiefs and youth in to a dialogue inorder to achieve a peaceful stay, but the timeline is yet to be agreed upon.
