Wau state deputy governor takes oath of office

January 22, 2016 (WAU) – Deputy governor of the newly created Wau state in South Sudan, Lieutenant General Andrea Dominic, has taken oath of office on Friday in Wau town. He was appointed on 1 January by governor Elias Waya, also a newly appointed governor by President Salva Kiir to one of the 28 states he created on 2 October 2015.

The new deputy governor was took oath in the presence of the state governor and state high court president, Charles Abyei. Hundreds of his relatives from Wau county witnessed the occasion at the state council of ministers’ peace hall.

Addressing the ceremony, Dominic said he was happy “because he was born in Wau, grew up in Wau and Wau has now become a state where he is the deputy governor.” He called for forgiveness and urged whoever had been fighting one another because of internal differences to have a change of heart and work for peace and unity of the people of South Sudan.

“Am calling on those who were doing bad things during the past for the sake of benefits to stop them and work for peace, whether a government official or was in army,” he said.

He assured that his state government will organize local youth groups into national youth with a constitution which will provide their maximum rights and duties, adding that the state communities can easily interact through such organizations.

“We are also going to tighten our state security. I want to tell you that there is something going on in this state on the side of security but let me promise you that we are doing our best to find the solution,” said Dominic.

Wau state governor Elias Nyipuoch on Friday issued a gubernatorial order also appointing two county commissioners. Karlo Manyuon Majak was appointed as a commissioner for Jur River county and Anthony Fada Taban as Wau county commissioner.

In a similar order, the governor appointed Akol Akol Ajieth as mayor of Wau town municipal council deputized by James Bak Nyiyuo.

The governor also relieved from duty the secretary general for the council of ministers, Tom Ismaill Jene, and appointed Silvano Wudo as the new secretary general, deputized by John Lawrence.

All advisers have also been relieved but no replacements yet. Other orders include the relief of state ministers, state revenue authority directors and their re-appointment. However some did not make their way back to their positions.

The governor also explained that some of these directors general were relieved because they were requested to leave Wau state and report to another new neighbouring Lol state to establish their directorates there.

Governor Rizik Zackaria Hassan, who previously ruled Western Bhar el Ghazal state before it was split into two, had asked the officials to report and work with him in establishing the new state.
