Fire consumes Bor county offices
January 28, 2016 (BOR) – An unexpected fire outbreak, attributed to an electric fault, burnt down six office premises in Jonglei’s Bor county on Wednesday, an official said.
The fire affected the county’s education, agriculture and health sections, now reduced to mere rubbles. It started at about 10pm (local time).
According to the Bor county commissioner, Mamer Ruk, the electricians who wired the offices have been arrested as investigations get underway.
Ruk said he left the electricians setting up cables when he left office at about 5:00pm, adding that an electric shocks may have caused the fire outbreak.
“Unfortunately we don’t know what happened. At about 10 something, fire erupted at the compound and all the offices are burnt to ashes,” he said.
The value of items lost could, however, not easily be determined by officials, who cited office equipment, furniture, veterinary drugs and computers as some of the items lost.
