Wau state announces 2015 primary leaving exams
February 11, 2016 (BAGARI) – The Education Ministry in South Sudan’s Wau state officially released on Wednesday the 2015 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results.
A total of 3,329 pupils, education officials said, sat exams across the state, including schools within Raga county, prior to its becoming part of Lol state.
According to the education ministry, of 3,329 pupils who sat last year’s exams, 2,686 passed with 81%, a slight decline from the previous results.
In 2014, the ministry disclosed, 2,938 sat exams with a pass rate of 70%. Last year, 1,987 males reportedly sat the PLE exams, compared to the 1,341 female candidates.
The director general in the Ministry of Education, Martha Richard, however said those who failed the exams would still have a chance to re-sit exams.
She attributed the poor performances to insecurity, particularly in Wau county, where most pupils were sheltered during the exams period.
Poor feeding in families due to high commodities prices in most markets was also part of the poor performance of the pupils, stressed the senior education official.
