Two Rwandan nationals killed in South Sudan town

February 14, 2016 (YEI) – Bodies of two Rwandan nationals killed in South Sudan’s Yei River state were on Saturday discovered along Maridi state road.

The two men are believed to have been killed in a road ambush. Both men worked for a cigarette producing and investment company in Yei municipality.

The Yei state chief police inspector, Col. Jeremiah Maker described as unacceptable the gruesome murder in which both bodies were also burnt.

“The men were killed and burnt like charcoal. These are foreign nationals, we opened and saw their bodies in the car and found out that they were burnt like charcoal. This is never good and these people were killed by others who don’t want peace. We condemn this in human act,” he said.

Equally irked was Yei town’s deputy mayor, Azariah Khamis Noah who urged residents to share insecurity information with relevant authorities.

“We condemn such barbaric [and] brutal killing,” said the mayor.

Khamis also extended an apology to the Rwandan government and its people, saying the incident should not strain relations between the two nations.

“We are committed to protect both foreign and local nationals,” he stressed.

In November last year, a similar incident occurred in which armed groups ambushed a vehicle along Yei-Maridi highway, killing at least three people.
