Sudan dialogue secretariat accused of manipulating the conference’s outcome

February 15, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – A senior member of the freedoms and fundamental rights subcommittee of the National Dialogue Conference Monday claimed that the recommendations of his panel have been manipulated to please the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

In a letter seen by Sudan Tribune Monday, the deputy rapporteur of the freedoms and fundamental rights subcommittee, Omer al-Sajad casted doubts on the seriousness and credibility of the process saying the conclusions and recommendations of their panel have been changed.

In his letter to President Omer al-Bashir and leaders of political parties participating in the National Dialogue Conference, al-Sajad said they learnt that the secretary general of the conference cancelled their recommendations and held a new session for their panel while him and the subcommittee rapporteur Ibrahim Dagash left the country after the submission of their report.

Al-Sajad is the chairman of a group called “Dialogue’s Supporters” composed of independent Sudanese Islamists who are critical of Bashir’s regime but believe that the dialogue is the only way to resolve the political crisis in Sudan.

He said their subcommittee had ended its works since two weeks but it delayed the submission of its conclusions to the dialogue secretariat, hoping to reach a consensus with the ruling party over the outstanding issues.

However when a meeting was held last Thursday with the participation of the NCP delegate Yasir Youssef, the latter demanded to register the reservation of his party on the Trade Union bill in the minutes of the meeting.
?
Al-Sajad who is also a member of the redaction committee said the meeting endorsed the recommendations and the redaction committee drafted the agreed additions on Saturday.

However he said they learnt that conference’s secretary general cancelled the agreed recommendations and called for a new meeting to change it.

He called on President Bashir who is the chairperson of the dialogue coordination committee to remediate this situation and correct this irregularity .

The dialogue process is boycotted by the opposition groups that demand to review its mechanism and to release freedoms in the country .
