Couple burnt to death in Yei town

February 17, 2016 (YEI) – A couple were on Tuesday night burnt beyond recognition at Nyongwe, a suburb located in South Sudan town of Yei.

“The cause of the incident that claimed lives of the couple remain unclear as investigation got underway,” said the town mayor, Azariah Khamis.

He advised the local population not to take laws into their own hands.

“Let them not take the law into their hands. When there is a case of such a nature in our community, some people will say Mr. X is responsible for that incident,” said Khamis.

He added, “I don’t want this kind of decisions taken by some individuals”.

The police, the mayor said, will investigate the incident and those involved will be brought to book, in accordance with the existing law and order.

“They [Police] know how to handle it [the murder case],” he explained

The two, according to the mayor, operated retail businesses in Yei town.
