S. Sudanese soldiers “arrest” Wau’s deputy governor
February 18, 2016 (JUBA) – South Sudanese soldiers have reportedly arrested the deputy governor of Wau state, Maj. Gen. Andrea Dominic over his alleged involvement in insecurity incidences within Wau town.
“Yes Dominic was first called to report himself to the SPLA headquarters in Gerenti just after closing a meeting with the members of security officials on the current situation. From there, he was immediately detained,” an official in the deputy governor’s office told Sudan Tribune on Thursday.
A member of Dominic’s family confirmed the arrest, saying the deputy governor’s phone was off and his whereabouts unknown.
It remains unclear as to how Dominic was involved in the Wau town chaos and the army is yet to officially react to the alleged detention of Dominic.
Dominic, a Balanda by tribe, was appointed deputy governor in last month. However, his appointment, analysts say, was to foster unity among the people of Wau state.
