SPLM-N spokesperson, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Friday said that their fighters ambushed a Sudanese army logistical convoy on El-Obeid -Delling road in Karmali area on 25 February.

“The attack targeted a mobile logistical unit moving from Kharasana (in West Kordofan) to (the capital of South Kordofan) Kadugli in order to launch military operations,” Lodi said.

The rebel official said the inflected heavy losses on the Sudanese army including, killing of 23 soldiers, destruction of four T-55 tanks loaded on two tank-transporters, destruction of six fuel tankers and a vehicle loaded with weapons.

The Sudanese army spokesperson was not available for comment.

Recently, the Sudanese army focused its attacks on the SPLM-N positions in the Blue Nile state, while the front of the Nuba Mountains was relatively calm.

The African Union mediators failed to bring the two warring parties to sign a peace agreement in a five-year process since the eruption of the conflict in June 2011.

They plan to hold a meeting next March in Addis Ababa where they will gather the government, the National Umma Party and three rebel groups, including the SPLM-N to discuss ways to end war and engage in a comprehensive peace process.
