SPLM-N rebels report new attacks on government forces in S Kordofan
February 28, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North Sunday said its fighters continue to carry out attacks and ambushed the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in two positions in South Kordofan state.
“On 27 February at 9.00pm (local time) SPLM-N forces in Salara area – South Kordofan under the command of Brg. Gen. Daud Ashaya Alful, ambushed a SAF convoy on Kadugli – Dilling highway,” said a statement issued on Sunday evening.
SPLM-N spokesperson, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, said they destroyed eight military vehicles and captured one in a good condition.
He further reported a second attack in Talodi County where their fighters allegedly killed 53 soldiers in an attack in Lia um-Sharmot area on 26 February. He said they lost 10 SPLA-N fighters.
The Sudanese army didn’t issue a statement on these attacks, and its spokesperson was not reachable for comment.
Regional and international mediators and facilitators have failed to bring the warring parties to reach a peace agreement during the nearly five years of the conflict.
Also, the African Union mediation team brokered a humanitarian agreement providing to allow UN agencies and observers from the Arab leagues and the African Union to reach civilians in the war affected areas, but it is not implemented.
In a separate statement Lodi said an Antonov military plane belonging to the Sudanese army dropped 15 incendiary bombs on civilian populated areas in Sabat, Dalami County.
He said the bombs killed 11 goats, two cows and three pigs. Also, the bombardement caused terror and panic among the civilians.
