Wau state governor urges special forces to protect civilians
March 1, 2016 (WAU) – The governor of South Sudan’s Wau state, Elias Waya Nyipuoch has instructed members of the special forces, to focus on protection of civilians during their routine night patrols in the town.
Addressing the forces at police training headquarter in Wau, Nyipuoch urged the forces, comprising of the police, wildlife, fire brigade and prison service teams to use their professional techniques to combat night crimes.
“Our today meeting is about the night patrol issue and this issue did not come out from nothing but it has come out from the meeting of the security committee that we conducted. We sat last Friday and we reviewed all reports, including the security technique of the state, so we came out with the order that the previous night patrolling team, which comprised of all state especial forces is the one going to control night security in Wau with all possible means,” Nyipuoch said Tuesday.
The directive, he said, comes in the wake of a recent incident in which three people were killed in Khor-Ghana and two others near an army barracks.
He said, “We received report that a boy of less than 16 years was killed near the army barrack, but when I asked the population as to who killed the boy, the people said unknown killers,” further adding “These killers will be known”.
The governor said his state still experiences problems with the few patrol vehicles.
“I have instructed the mayor to repair the four cars we have,” said Nyipuoch warning that any security personnel arrested for night crimes would face court procedures.
