Bashir receives message from Egyptian president over joint cooperation
March 20, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir Sunday has received a message from his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi pertaining to joint cooperation and coordination between the two nations in regional and international forums.
Egypt’s foreign minister Samih Shukri, who arrived Sunday in Khartoum in a surprise visit, told reporters following his meeting with Bashir that the two nations hold identical views and positions on the various regional and Arabic issues.
He stressed that Khartoum and Cairo must strengthen the joint cultural, political and economic ties in order to face challenges and create opportunities to achieve development and prosperity in both countries.
The Egyptian top diplomat expressed satisfaction with the existing level of relations between the two brotherly nations in all domains.
For his part, Sudan’s foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour announced that foreign ministers of Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia will meet during the few coming days.
He said the meeting would discuss social, cultural, security, economic and political cooperation among the three nations, pointing to ongoing preparations to hold the meeting of the Egyptian-Sudanese Higher Committee in Cairo during the upcoming weeks.
Relations between Sudan and Egypt have been frosty over the past few years, but they’ve recently begun to thaw thanks to a series of conciliatory diplomatic gestures.
In October 2014, al-Sisi and Bashir upgraded representation in a joint committee aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
