Sudan’s Bashir invited to attend inauguration of Niger’s president
March 24, 2016 (KHARTOUM) -Sudan’s foreign ministry said that President Omer al-Bashir has received an invitation to participate in the inauguration of Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou.
Sudanese foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour, Thursday received his Nigerien counterpart Aichatou Kane Boulama who arrived to Khartoum to hand over the invitation to President Omer al-Bashir.
Following the meeting , the foreign ministry spokesperson said Ghandour praised Ngier for its continued support to Sudan in the regional and international forums.
The Sudanese president is facing an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court(ICC) for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. But, since its issuance in 2009, the African Union decided to not enforce it.
Niger is a state party to ICC. But several African countries including Nigeria and South Africa ignored the implementation of the arrest warrant.
Some 2.7 million people have fled their homes since the conflict began in Darfur in 2003, and the UN says about 300,000 have died – mostly from disease.
