Minnawi calls to campaign against Sudan roadmap

March 25, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The leader of a Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) faction, Minni Minnawi called on the Sudanese people to campaign against the Roadmap Agreement signed by the Sudanese government and the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) on March 22.

The SLM-MM, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), National Umma Party (NUP) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) refused to sign a peace plan concocted by the AUHIP saying it would not lead to hold an equal national dialogue.

However, the chief mediator said the signed framework agreement will stop war, allow humanitarian access and encompasses the necessary bases for a comprehensive dialogue in Sudan. Also, the chairperson of the AU commission Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma praised the deal and asked the holdouts to desist from issuing statements hostile to the roadmap.

However in statements extended to Sudan Tribune Friday SLM leader Minni Minnawi said the deal is actually a “bilateral plan between the AUHIP and the GoS to force Sudanese opposition to legitimize GoS unilateral “monologue”.

Minnawi further called on the whole Sudanese forces “particularly the refugee, IDPs, the youth, the victims of the “dams” and the Diaspora” to campaign against this “dubious” roadmap and to protest through petitions and demonstrations before the UN and AU offices around the world to “force the mediation to act as a neutral and impartial body,” he said.

“With this unprecedented move the mediation has unfortunately allied itself with the government and created an atmosphere of suspicious questioning its credibility and left no room but to be described as a partial party that supports government position”.

The leader of the opposition NUP Sadiq al-Mahdi Thursday said the roadmap included several positive points but need to be amended in a way to distinguish between the ongoing government controlled process held in Khartoum and the comprehensive national dialogue that will be held after the pre-dialogue meeting.
