Sudan mortar attack kills two civilians in South Kordofan: rebels

March 25, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army killed a woman and child and injured two others on Friday in mortar attacks on rebel-controlled areas in South Kordofan state, said the spokesperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North.

In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune Saturday Arnu Ngutulu Lodi said that Hawa Sabit was killed by a mortar rocket fired by the Sudanese army on Um Sirdeba in Um Dorain County on 24 March.

Lodi further said a 7-year child, Mubarak Toto, died while being transported to a dispensary. He added that two other children were injured by shelling on Alhabil village in Um Dorain County on Friday.

Since last December Sudanese army and SPLM-N resumed hostilities after their failure to strike a cessation of hostilities deal.

Khartoum last week, accepted to sign a truce with the rebels and to allow humanitarian access to civilians in the war affected areas, abandoning its previous demand for a final ceasefire. But, the rebels declined to sign a framework agreement proposed by the African Union mediator, demanding an inclusive dialogue process.

In addition to the mortar attacks, the SPLM-N spokesperson said Sudanese army warplanes bombed several areas in South Kordofan on Friday.

Lodi said a Mig dropped three bombs on Nikma area, while an Antonov dropped six bombs on Allabo area, and two others on Heiban town. He also said that the government bombed Al-Azraq area.

he did not report any casualties from the air raids.

In a related development, the rebel official said that SPLA-N fighters repulsed government troops heading to Angolo in Al-Buram County.
