Darfur group says South Sudan arrested its leading members
March 26, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The rebel faction of the Sudan liberation Movement/the Second Revolution (SLM-2ed R) said the security service in South Sudan Saturday has arrested two of its leaders.
In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune Saturday, SLM-2ed R leader Abul Gasim Imam said security authorities in South Sudan arrested Abdallah Khalil and Adam Abdallah who represented the movement among others in Sudan’s dialogue conference.
The SLM-2ed R sent a delegation to participate in the ongoing national dialogue conference which was inaugurated in Khartoum last October amid large boycott from the major political and armed opposition.
“It seems that South Sudan’s government and holdout movement were not pleased with [our participation in the dialogue conference] … Khalil and Abdallah returned to South Sudan two weeks ago and they have been arrested today”, the statement read.
The Sudanese army has been fighting a group of armed movements in Darfur since 2003.
Sudanese government says they crushed those movements in the western Sudan region and rebel group no longer have any military activities.
