Sudan’s FM to attend global meeting on Syrian refugees
March 28, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour Tuesday will travel to Geneva to attend the high-level meeting on Global Responsibility Sharing for Syrian Refugees on 30 March.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ali al-Sadiq Monday told the official news agency SUNA that Ghanodur’s participation in the meeting comes upon an invitation from the United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.
He pointed that the invitation recognizes the extraordinary measures taken by Sudan to receive the Syrian refugees and the trust put in the country by the African group in the European headquarters to coordinate all humanitarian affairs during 2016.
Al-Sadiq further added that the meeting comes within the framework of a series of preliminary meetings under the auspices of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to explore mechanisms for the admission of Syrian refugees that could be adopted by states to relieve the pressure on countries currently hosting large numbers.

Meanwhile, al-Sadiq said that Ghandour would travel from Geneva to Kuwait on Saturday upon an invitation from the Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabah Al-khalid Al-Sabah.
He said that the top diplomat would hand over a written letter from President Omer al-Bashir to the Emir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber pertaining to promoting bilateral ties between the two nations besides political coordination in a number of regional and international issues.
Al-Sadiq added that Ghandour would also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a joint political consultations committee besides signing two agreements for mutual visa exemption of diplomatic and special passports holders.
