Jieng union members dismiss leader over corruption allegations
March 29, 2016 (KAMPALA) – Members of the Jieng Council Union members in East Africa have impeached their chairman, Kuol Gai Thiep over alleged involvement in corruption, abuse of the union office, negligence and incompetence to perform duties.
At a meeting conducted in Uganda on Tuesday, 36 members of council declared Manyiel Kuch, the ex-secretary for information as interim leader until a new election takes place.
It is not yet clear how much was embezzled as claimed by members of the Jieng union.
“We will furthermore as council members form an investigation committee that will be travelling to Juba to meet with the former chairman and the finance secretary,” said Kuch.
Riing Deng Ajith said the former chairperson was deeply involved in corruprion scandles.
“He is involved in fraud of the assets of the union since we were elected. The chairman has been the holding the union’s stamp and all other documents of the union and when asked by the secretary general, he kept on promising to bring them, but in vain,” he said.
Ajith said the Jieng union leader used someone signature’s on behalf of the general secretary, but his luck ran out when he was caught last week for forgery.
“It was when the secretary found out that the chairman has been forging the documents of which another person has been signing on behalf of the secretary general and when asked he said the secretary general has not been around, which is illegal,” he explained.
Members of the Jieng union in Uganda, however, endorsed their chairperson’s dismissal.
