Sudan, India agree to develop military cooperation

April 2, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan and India agreed to upgrade a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in the past years to a comprehensive military agreement, said the official news agency SUNA on Saturday.

The Sudanese defence minister Awad Ibn Ouf returned Saturday to Khartoum after a four-day visit to India to attend Asia’s largest Defence exhibition, DefExpo India 2016.

Also, Ibn Ouf held talks with his Indian counterpart and a number of Indian military officials.

“The meetings discussed ways to enhance and develop military relations in all fields. It was agreed to develop a memorandum of understanding, signed between the two countries, to a comprehensive military protocol to be prepared by the concerned authorities in the two armed forces,” Suna said.

In March 2003 India, ONGC Videsh Ltd, acquired a 25 per cent stake from Canada’s Talisman Energy in the Unity state.

In February 2004, India offered to sell military platforms and training, to Sudan. In 2005, It delivered to the east African country Battlefield Surveillance Radars used for detection of vehicles and missiles in battlefield.

before to travel to India, the Sudanese defence minister was in Qatari capital where he visited Doha international Maritime Defence Exhibition And Conference Dimex and held talks with his Qatari counterpart, Hamad Bin Ali Al-Attiyah.

The two countries have friendly relations since Sudan independence in 1956. The two countries are founding members of the non aligned movement established in July 1956.
