French Communists stand in solidarity with Khartoum University students
April 15, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The French Communist Party (FCP) Saturday issued a statement expressing its solidarity with the Sudanese student who protested a government plan to relocate the University of Khartoum (UofK) from its historical building in the capital.
“The French communist Party expresses its solidarity with the students struggling in Khartoum and throughout the country, for the respect of their rights, maintenance and modernization of the University of Khartoum, better learning environment and the conquest of freedoms,” said the FCP.
The statement which was translated and widely disseminated through the social media said the relocation aims to better control the academic institution that impacted the Sudanese political history across the history.
The government ” thus tries to prevent any protest movement in the future, such as those conducted in recent years against high tuition fees, for better accommodation, but also to demand the end of the war in Darfur, blue Nile and South Kordofan,” stressed the statement.
UofK student since took the street in Khartoum last week to protest statements made by the Sudanese tourism minister who disclosed the government intention to transfer the university from its current location and to lease out its former premises for tourism purposes.
Since, the government quickly denied the relocation of the university and the minister toured the Sudanese media to reassure the students.
The French Communist Party has a long relation of political solidarity with the Sudanese Communist party and their struggle for democracy in the east African country.
