The chief police inspector at the county, Edward Gbaki said the deceased was overpowered by machete-wielding groups of people.

When the three armed police officers met the criminals with two AK47s, fighting started, but when the officers went back to the station for reinforcement; they came back only to find their colleague unconscious with serious wounds on the head and the criminals escaped to the bush, said Gbaki.

The suspect, eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune, hails from neighbouring Central African Republic and recently joined his relatives at a refugee camp located within the county. He has allegedly been involved in several criminal activities.

According to Gbaki, a number of cops have been deployed in Makpandu payam to maintain law and order. Tension was high at the height of the conflict between the police and the locals, with the former accused of allegedly mistreating the population.
