16 injured in Khartoum gas tanker explosion
May 7, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Sixteen people were injured on Saturday morning when a gas tanker exploded in the Sudanese capital twin city of Omdurman.
Commissioner of Omdurman locality Magdi Abdel-Aziz said in a press release that the tanker caught fire and exploded while it was unloading gas at bakery in the Soug Al-Shagara area in Abu Roaf neighbourhood at 11:30am.
He pointed that the concerned bodies including the prosecution office, fire department and the criminal police office are investigating the causes of the incident in order to define the responsibilities.
According to Abdel-Aziz medical teams and fire crews rushed to the area of the explosion scene, saying that 16 people with minor injuries and superficial burns have been transferred to the emergency department at Omdurman Hospital.
He added that the explosion shattered windows and destroyed artificial ceilings of nearby buildings, saying the bakery and the grand mosque besides 11 shops were partially destroyed.
The commissioner further said that a four-wheel Land Cruiser vehicle has been completely destroyed in the blast.
