Darfur peace talks suspended until Saturday
ABUJA, Aug 26 (AFP) — A fourth day of African Union peace talks on the conflict in Sudan’s province of Darfur ended Thursday with delegates saying they would take a day off for consultations before returning to the table.
Organisers and participants at the talks in the Nigerian capital Abuja said they had listened to presentations on the humanitarian crisis in Darfur from UN officials, the region’s rebel movement and the Khartoum government.
The parties to the conflict are to spend Friday considering their position and consulting with allies in Sudan before returning to the Abuja International Conference centre on Saturday, participants told reporters.
