South Sudan’s Wani in Nairobi for peace mobilization campaign
May 13, 2016 (JUBA) – South Sudanese Vice President is in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, for peace mobilization campaign and to solicit support of the Kenyan authorities to lead efforts aimed at reaching out to the international community to support the newly formed transitional government of national unity (TGoNU).
James Wani Igga, the third most powerful man in the leadership hierarchy as per the terms of the August 2015 peace agreement which the government and armed opposition faction under the leadership of the first vice president, Riek Machar, signed is accompanied by a number of cabinet ministers and other officials.
Taban Deng Gai, Minister of Mining, Akol Paul Kordit, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Ambassador John Andruga Duku and Ateny Wek Ateny, Press Secretary in the office of the President, were among the officials accompanying him, according to a statement from the presidency.
He and his accompanying delegation arrived this afternoon in Nairobi to brief the South Sudanese community on the state of affairs in the Republic of South Sudan with regards to the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity and matters related to implementation of the Peace Agreement.
The event will take place on Sunday, 15 May, at Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi.
The delegation, according to the presidential statement, was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by the Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Jimmy Makuach and the Embassy staff, including Madam Jacky Chol.
South Sudan formed the transitional government two weeks ago in ending the 21 months of civil war.
