SPLM-N rebels ambush government soldiers in S. Kordofan

June 3, 2016 (KHARTOUM)- The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement -North (SPLM-N) in South Kordofan state Friday ambushed government forces that were heading to reinforce some military units besieged in the Blue Nile State.

SPLM-N Spokesperson Arnu Ngulutu Lodi said the attack took place 10 kilometres north-east Al-Azraq area in South Kordofan on Friday at 12:00. He added it is the second of its kind.

This is the second rescue convoy to be destroyed in Al-azreq. The fighting lasted for 15 minutes, after what the (government) forces fled randomly to Khor Al-Dileb and Al-Rahmania areas,” he said.

On 19 May, Lodi said they ambushed a Sudanese army mobile unit that left Kosti in the While Nile state heading to Al-Azrak area in South Kordofan state.

he added that 25 soldiers were killed from the government forces while they lost only one combatant.

The Sudanese army spokesperson was not reachable for comment.

The fighting between the SPLM-N and the government forces has been taking place in different fronts in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states, where the government has been in war with the rebels of the SPLM-N since June 2011.
