Commissioner of Kutum Adam Awad al-Karim told Sudan Tribune that members of a “paramilitary force ambushed an administrative convoy of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on Sunday in “Shag Al Nakhra” area in Kutum locality, 100 km west of El-Fasher.

He added that Kutum has been witnessing tensions for the past three weeks between the army and paramilitary forces, stressing that the security apparatuses are controlling the situation and arresting the “outlaws” in the county.

He said the security committee has taken a number of measures he did not reveal to control the situation in the locality.

The police and attorney offices returned to Kutum Locality in November last year for the first time since the outbreak of violence in September 2012.

The Sudanese army pacified the area after tense clashes with an Arab militia that sparked violence in Kutum to revenge the murder of the commissioner of Al-Waha locality by unknown gunmen.
