Four gunmen sentenced to death and life imprisonment in South Darfur
June 23, 2016 (NYALA) – A Sudanese court in Nyala, capital of South Darfur state, on Thursday, sentenced to death and life imprisonment four people after convicting them of killing three civilians in an armed looting in the city.
Nyala Special Criminal Court sentenced headed by Ismail Idris, condemned two defendants under the Terrorism Act, ammunition law and the Criminal Code.
Two others were convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
The convicted killed three people including a policeman in Alsalam neighbourhood of Nyala in July 2015.
South Darfur State and its capital Nyala, the largest town in the region, have been witnessing a state of security breakdown.
Incidents of armed robbery have increased despite a number of draconian security measures to curb criminal activities.
The armed gangs remain the main sources of violence in Nyala, as the government has failed up to now to conduct a disarmament campaign.
