Sudanese troops reached SPLM-N’s Kauda when the truce was declared : governor

June 24, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – The Governor of South Kordofan State, on Friday, said that the Sudanese army was on the outskirts of Kauda a rebel stronghold town before the declaration of a four-month cessation of hostilities by President Omar al-Bashir last week.

Governor Issa Adam Abkr further asserted that the armed forces have achieved great victories in the state, saying they are on the outskirts of “Kauda” After the recapture of large areas of South Kordofan from the insurgency.

he further said that 90% of the state’s territory has become a safe.
On Friday June 17, Sudanese President Omer Hassan al-Bashir declared on Friday a four-month unilateral cessation of hostilities in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan states.

Also, the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on 22 June confirmed that it ordered troops to stop military operations against the SPLM-N fighters in the two states where the conflict erupted in June and September 2011.

In statements to the official Radio Omdurman on Friday , Abkr said that the SPLM-N combatants celebrated the presidential decision of unilateral truce adding that some rebel leaders are “tired of a war they are waging against their will”.

The governor described the presidential decision as “bold” because “the armed forces were at the height of their victories and able to resolve the insurgency militarily”.

He further said that the cease-fire gives the inhabitants of the SPLM-N controlled areas, the opportunity to cultivate the land.

He called on the international community to put pressure of the leadership of the rebel group to sign a peace agreement with the government.
