Sudanese president receives telephone call from UN secretary general

annan_port-2.jpgKHARTOUM, Aug 28, 2004 (SUNA) — resident of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir received a telephone call Saturday from United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, during which he expressed appreciation for the efforts being exerted by the President and the government for resolving the crisis in Darfur.

Annan referred to the positive reports he receives from the representatives of the international organization on the situations in Darfur, expressing hope for continuation of efforts for realizing peace in Darfur and south Sudan in light of Naivasha’s protocols.

He affirmed readiness of the international community and the UN to support the efforts of peace, development and rehabilitation in Darfur. On his part, President Al-Bashir affirmed the government’s keenness on normalizing the situation in Darfur as great numbers of displaced persons have begun to return voluntarily to their home areas to practice their normal life.

The President expressed thanks to the UN Secretary General for his personal concern, affirming that efforts would be redoubled for realization security and peace allover the country soonest to pave the way for development and rehabilitation operations.
