Leading Sudanese Jihadist killed in Libya
July 7, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese leading member in the Islamic State (ISIS) group in Libya has been killed during an aerial bombardment in Sirte town, 500 kilometres east of the Libyan capital Tripoli, said sources close to the Jihadist group.
The Sudanese Jihadist Abu-al-Harith, whose death is kept confidential by ISIS – Libya, has joined ISIS mid 2015. He left to Libya by road and joined the group in Barga, according to reports on Libyan websites.
The killed Jihadist hails from East Aldiom area in Khartoum state. He was one ISIS prominent preachers. Several months ago he made a controversial speech in one of Sirte’s mosques where he described the military personnel, police, judiciary and Libyan government officials as “tyrants” and called on them to repent and return to Allah.
Since last year, dozens of Sudanese youth mostly students flew from Khartoum to Istanbul to join ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
Last year, Sudan’s interior ministry said that about 70 Sudanese, of both sexes have joint the ISIS in Syria and Libya. Only two have returned to Sudan. However several sources indicated that the number of those who are fighting in the ranks of the Jihadist group is much more than the official statistics.
Expert on Islamic Jihadist groups, al-Hadi Mohamed al-Amin told Sudan Tribune that despite the increase in the number of Sudanese Jihadists joining ISIS-Libya; the group has lost over 20 Sudanese Jihadist, whom were killed in several places in Libya from June 2015 to June 2016.
“ISIS-Libya avoided announcing the killing of Abu-al-Harith due to the heavy losses in the group’s ranks including Abu- Faris the son of the famous radical Islamist Abu-Zaid Mohamed Hamza,” al-Hadi further said.
The expert further stressed that several Sudanese Jihadists were killed in Sirte including al-Nur Musa nicknamed Abu- Maz al-Muthana who blow himself in the middle of (Libya Dawn) forces in Darna district.
