The PRC meetings would discuss various reports drafted by the AU organs and decision-making bodies in preparation for submission to the AU Executive Council meetings which would take place from 13 to 15 July with the participation of Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour.

Sudan’s deputy chief of mission at the AU, al-Zain Ibrahim, told the official news agency (SUNA) on Monday that heads of state and government of member states of the AU would hold a closed session on 16 July to discuss the funding of the AU.

He added that the Summit would tackle a number of issues pertaining to the African integration, peace and security situation in Africa besides the AU Commission elections.

The theme of the upcoming Summit is: “2016: African Year of Human Rights, with particular focus on the Rights of Women”.

Ibrahim pointed that State Foreign Minister Kamal al-Din Ismail has arrived in Kigali along with Sudan’s candidates for AU Commission (AUC) positions, saying that Ghandour would arrive in the Rwandan capital on Tuesday to take part in the AU Executive Council meetings.

Sudan has nominated former Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary Rahamt Allah Mohamed Osman for the AUC’s Political Affairs commissioner post besides nominating former Minister of Social Welfare Amira al-Fadil for the Social Affairs commissioner position.

Last month, a special Sudanese presidential envoy had toured several African capitals to rally support for his country’s candidates for two AUC positions.
