The attack near Kor-Makuach was one of similar incidences that occurred at the same location this year.

“I was inside the car that was attacked. The driver saw like two people in front of us, with guns in a short distance. He speedily tried to bypass them, and it was during this time when they started firing at us,” said eyewitness Majok Deng.

“One man was killed on the spot, and the driver was shot twice, but he did not stop the car. In the course of the firing, three others were injured just within no time”, he further recalled.

The attackers, Deng said, were roughly seven in numbers, with many suspecting them to be from the Murle tribe of Jonglei state’s Pibor county.

Colonel Ajang John, a police officer in Jonglei state also confirmed the incident.

“Two vehicles left Juba but unfortunately after reaching to areas of Kor-Makuach they failed into ambush. One person was shot dead in the first vehicle and four others were injured. And all properties have been looted from the second vehicle”, said Ajang.

He said security organs were still gathering more information on the items looted, and the perpetrators who carried out the attack.

“We are now investigating the incident and more information will later be reveled after security reports are completed”, said Ajang.
