Two killed, 15 injured in clashes over North Darfur farmland
August 30, 2016 (EL-FASHER) – Two people were killed and over 15 others injured in clashes over agricultural land in Jadid Al-Seil area, 10 km north the North Darfur state capital, El-Fasher.
The paramount chief of Jadid Al-Seil area, Seif al-din Salih told Sudan Tribune Tuesday that the incident resulted from a dispute among cousins over farm land.
He said the dispute was earlier referred to the judiciary, but clashes erupted following recent developments on the issue.
A security source told Sudan Tribune that a police force arrived at the crime scene, pointing that seven people were apprehended pending completion of the investigation and the arrest of the rest of the culprits.
During the rainy season, usually various clashes erupt between herdsmen and farmers in some areas in North Darfur leading to violence and recorded cases of killings.
There are already fears that these incidents could create fear among farmers and dissuade the displaced people willing to return voluntarily to their home villages or those intending to return back to their areas during the cultivation season.
