Sudan’s SCP urges medical personnel to defend their rights
September 11, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) has urged the medical personnel to use the strikes, sit-ins and protests as “weapons” to defend the rights of workers in the medical field.
The Sudanese capital and various states have recently witnessed a number of incidents where police officers attacked medical personnel while they are carrying out their work causing wide discontent among workers in the medical field.
In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Sunday, the SCP said the trade unions failed to achieve any gains for the workers because they are controlled by “opportunist” who used it as tools for their own personal benefits.
The statement stressed the need to make pressures to restore the real role of the trade unions in defending interests of the workers, pointing to various ways to secure workers’ rights including the memos, sit-ins, protests and the strikes.
It called upon the workers to fight for the improvement of their terms of services and salaries as well as opening career paths for training, promotion and improving working environment.
The statement further stressed the need to protect medical personnel while carrying out their work in hospitals in order to avoid the “repeated and systematic attacks”, pointing to government attempts to sell the land of Omdurman Hospital.
The SCP also called upon the Sudanese people to stand against government attempts to close public hospitals, saying the health services sector is going through extreme conditions due to failed government policies.
