The incident occurred at 8:00pm in Hai Jebel central of the town. Speaking to the press on Wednesday at the state council of ministers’ premise, Wau town mayor Mel Aleu Goc, said an investigation into the killings was underway.

He said the two believed to be responsible for the killings were arrested immediately at the scene and that they are currently under the custody of the state authorities, pending investigation and subsequent trial.

“The accident actually took place yesterday around quarter pass 8pm in the area called Hai Jebel, in this area, there is a bar which is located within the residential area that people used to drink, when people were gathered and they felt so drank, one of the soldiers [cocked] his gun and fired at the bar counter controller and killed him immediately,” said mayor.

Mel said the incident has no connection with the rebel activities in the area. According to multiple sources, the soldier turned his gun at one of police officers who was also inside the bar after the police questioned him of why he killed the bar counter.

“The accident was committed by individual, it has nothing to do with rebels, the accident was a part and parcel [of crimes] committed by individuals of people and those people were already arrested, they are now under investigation of police,” he said.

According to the Wau town mayor, the incident occurred hours after the bar club entertainers, including the killer, were under alcoholic intoxication.

The closed sources said the bar counter was shot dead by the soldier after he asked the two soldiers for the payment of the bill of the beers they have drunk.

The police who was killed said to be a driver of the CID state director. Last Friday, one person was killed in Hai Kreish while another man was wounded on Saturday with their murderers remaining at large.
