European, African officials expected in Sudan: FM

KHARTOUM, Sept 3, 2004 (SUNA) — A number of European and African officials are expected in Sudan this month, announced Foreign Minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail.

The minister explained that a delegation of the European Troika to be headed by the Foreign Minister of the Netherlands besides Belgian Foreign Minister and European Union economic commissioner will visit Sudan in the second week of current September.

The European delegation will discuss relations between Sudan and European Union and get acquainted with situations in Darfur, said the Minister. Meanwhile, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi is also expected in Khartoum in the second week of this month and will hold talks with President Omer Al Bashir on bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister of Spain, the current chairman of the Security Council, is expected here in the third week of this month. On the visiting Norwegian deputy Foreign Minister, Dr. Ismail said he held a meeting with him dealing with the situations in Darfur and efforts to push ahead Naivasha peace talks
