Jordan’s king meets Sudanese minister on Darfur crisis

Jordanian_King.jpgAMMAN, Sept 5, 2004 (Xinhua) — Jordanian King Abdullah II here Sunday met with visiting Sudanese Interior Minister Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein on situation in Sudan’s western region of Darfur, the official Petra News Agency reported.

During the meeting, Hussein conveyed a letter from Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Basher to the king, which relates to the latest development in Darfur.

Hussein also briefed King Abdullah on Sudan’s stand towards Darfur’s crisis and the efforts paid by the government to find a just solution to it.

King Abdullah urged that the Sudanese government should reach a solution to the Darfur problem apart from external intervention, stressing Jordan’s keenness on the unity of Sudan’s land and people.

Hussein, who arrived here Sunday morning on a Arab tour, which also covers Saudi Arabia and Syria, to brief Arab leaders on the situation in Darfur.

Sudan has said it is fully prepared for cooperation with the international community in restoring peace, easing the humanitarian crisis and reaching a comprehensive political solution to the troubled west Darfur region.
