Sudanese, Egyptian parliamentarians to discuss Darfur crisis
KHARTOUM, Sep 7, 2004 (SUNA) — Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Ahmed Fathi Saror, are due to co-chair the meeting of the joint Sudanese – Egyptian parliamentary committee, scheduled to begin here on September 14.
The two-day parliamentary meeting would discuss situation in Darfur and the role of the Sudanese and Egyptian Parliaments in following-up the issue, besides coordinating efforts at the regional and international forums.
The meeting would also review the implementation of the recommendations of the committee’s first decision and progress of the integration process and reactivating the work of the joint higher committee toward bolstering the relations between Sudan and Egypt in political, socio-economic and cultural domains in response to directives of the two countries’ leaderships.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Legislation and Justice Committee at the Assembly, Dr. Ismail Al-Haj Musa, stressed importance of the coming meetings. He said that the Sudanese – Egyptian relations had approached an advanced stage, referring to the Agreement on Four Freedoms of movement, residence, work and ownership.
