Darfur rebels violate ceasefire again: SUNA
KHARTOUM, Sep 12, 2004 (Xinhua) — A force of the Darfur rebels has attacked Iyal Amin area in the troubled western region of Sudan, wounding a policeman, the official Sudanese News Agency (SUNA)reported Sunday.
The attack brought the total number of violations by Darfur rebels to the ceasefire agreement with the government to 143 cases, the police said.
According to the report, the rebels also attacked Jabir and Um-Hosh villages in Darfur and assaulted a tribal chief, seizing his car.
Two local African groups took up arms against the central government in February 2003, accusing Khartoum of supporting the Arab militias which were blamed for the atrocity in the region.
The Sudanese government has repeatedly denied any links to the militias.
