Chinese, Sudanese FMs talk on phone
BEIJING, Sept 17, 2004 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing exchanged views Friday night with his Sudanese counterpart Mustafa Osman Ismail on the revised UN Security Council draft resolution on the Darfur humanitarian crisis in western Sudan.
During a telephone conversation, Li briefed Ismail on China’s exchanges with other members of the UN Security Council on the issue.
Ismail said that Sudan has taken new, active measures today to improve the Darfur situation, adding that Sudan will continue to cement cooperation with the United Nations, the African Union and the League of Arab States.
The United Nations estimates that at least one million people are currently living in refugee camps in Darfur under barbaric conditions.
