Sudanese vice president receives US congress delegation
KHARTOUM, Sep 19, 2004 (SUNA) — First Vice President Ali Osman Mohammed Taha has affirmed the government’s keenness on exerting more efforts to improve the situations in Darfur, referring to the government’s readiness for cooperation with the international community to normalize the situation there.
This came when the First Vice President received at his office at the Council of Ministers Sunday the visiting delegation of the US Congress.
The First Vice President briefed the delegation on the developments in Darfur and the efforts being exerted for containing the crisis, affirming the government commitment to realization of peace in the south through continuation of dialogue and negotiations with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement on the remaining outstanding issues.
Taha expressed regret over the Security Council resolution, pointing out that it would complicate the problems in the country instead of helping in solving them.
The US Congress delegation commended the government response to facilitate access of humanitarian aid, which greatly contributes to improving the humanitarian situation,
