Sudanese ruling party lauds defection of opposition PC leading figure
KHARTOUM, Sep 22, 2004 (SUNA) — The Presidential Political Advisor and Deputy Secretary of the Political Secretariat at the [ruling] National Congress, Dr. Gotbi Al-Mahdi, has regarded defection of the leading figure of the Popular Congress, Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amin, as a courageous move, which also reflected the attitude of many other leaders of the Popular Congress.
In a press statement Tuesday, Dr. Al-Mahdi praised the stance of Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amin, expressing his belief that several leading figures of the Popular Congress became aware about the trend of others in the party to create seditions and problems in Sudan.
He hoped that others at the Popular Congress will follow suit of Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amen and work for the unity of the rank and nation, especially at the current critical stage.
