Mama Winnie: A Revolutionary of All Times

By Yasir Arman

Yesterday, Winnie Mandela departed our world after she significantly contributed to its well being for a non-racial, non-sexist society, social justice and democratic values.

On behalf of the SPLM/N leadership, rank and file, and the entire Sudanese democratic, progressive and patriotic forces, we pay our deepest condolences to her family, the ANC, SACP, COSATU, SANCO, the Alliance and the poor people of South Africa and Africa at large, whom Mama Winnie truly represents.

Winnie Mandela has her rightful place in the South African struggle and worldwide, apart from being the wife of Nelson Mandela. Her life and contribution shall be celebrated in Africa and all over the world as a prominent revolutionary and freedom fighter. She has occupied a great place in the hearts and minds of Sudanese and many daughters of our land bear her name.

My colleagues and I, in the leadership of SPLM/N, had the pleasure of meeting her and sharing views with her on issues of our time and humanity.

When it comes to women emancipation, social justice and the struggle against inequality, Winnie Mandela is an icon and a shining face representing all these values.
