Sudanese opposition commander arrested in UAE – Al-Jazeera

DOHA, Sep 24, 2004 — Sources in the opposition Sudanese National Democratic Alliance in London have confirmed that Abd-al-Aziz Khalid, military commander of the Sudan Alliance Forces, was arrested yesterday upon his arrival in the United Arab Emirates from Cairo.

The Doha based Al-Jazeera TV said today.

The Sudan Alliance Forces continued to carry out military activities against the Sudanese government in the Sudanese-Eritrean border area. Abd-al-Aziz Khalid was deported from Asmara almost a month ago.

According to Al-jazeera, the UAE authorities are planning to hand over Abdal-Aziz Khalid to the Interpol authorities in Damascus as a prelude to handing him over to the Sudanese authorities in Khartoum.

Other sources said to ST that Sudan had Withdrawn its complaint against Khaled officially since two years.
