Garang to meet with Egyptian officials on peace talks in Sudan: SPLM
CAIRO, Sep 26, 2004 (MENA) — Leader of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement John Garang, who is currently here, will hold talks with the Egyptian officials on the Sudanese peace talks and the crucial stage Sudan was passing through, the movement spokesman Yasir Amran told MENA Tuesday .
Garang will also meet with Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, leader of the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the spokesman said.
Garang’s visit to Egypt follows a multi-leg tour which included the US, the spokesman said, adding: There, Garang met with US Secretary of State Colin Powell and several Congressional figures.
He also met with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, he said.
Amran added that SPLM has warmly welcomed recent statements by Egyptian President Husni Mubarak in which he said peace agreement in Sudan must be finalized. The movement is working in that direction, he added.
Garang will meet on October 7 with Sudanese first Vice-President Ali Osman Taha to start a new round of Neivasha talks, he said.
