Sudanese soldier reportedly dead after clashing with security forces

April 8, 2019 – One soldier was declared dead from gunshot wounds he sustained as he tried to protect protestors from security forces which launched an operation to disperse a sit-in in front of the military headquarters in the early hours of Monday, it was reported today.

screenshot_20190407-121256_chrome-417x303.jpgSudanese Doctor’s Central Committee (SDCC) in a statement identified the soldier as Sami sheikh al-Din but offered no further details.

SDCC added that another 55 years old protestor was killed after being shot by security forces in south Khartoum

Earlier reports said the army opened fire in the air to stop the forces of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) as they attempted to dislodge the protesters.

However, Sudan Tribune received several videos from activists and accounts by eyewitnesses confirming that the Sudanese army shot at the security elements when they arrived in the area.

Thousands of Sudanese have been pouring into the army headquarters since Saturday to call for ousting the regime of president Omer Hassan al-Bashir.
